Woo hoo!
Best greeting ever: the office manager saw me in the office today and exclaimed loud & disappointed – “oh shit you’re here!”
---
Sorry to disappoint regulars who’ve come to rely on the tragedy and self-pity of this blog but I have great news. I got a new job and will be moving on and up to great new things…er things that are somewhere other than here.
Better than getting out I’m headed back to where I just came from—almost—namely to the Merritt News, 45 min from friends in Kamloops, just over an hour from my brother in Kelowna and under 3 hours to downtown Vancouver. Woo hoo!
It seems funny to have moved 900 km for six months of work, apply all over the country, around the world in fact, only to move back whence I came.
Though I’m not that excited about Merritt itself (I don’t know it well and am prepared to discover I love it), I am excited about it’s general location and getting back to B.C. and the fun opportunity.
This venture has really affirmed that I am a simple B.C. boy not cut out for the wild new world of the prairies. One of my regrets is that I never got out of town to get a better sense of the province and find ways to enjoy the flatness…I’m still certain there are ways to enjoy the flat, I just never found time, money or friends to help me figure out what they are. I’ve never been so desperate to walk up a hill.
Now that I’m leaving the horror that has been the boredom and loneliness, this place already seems like a minor bad memory that I may even come to appreciate once I get some distance.
Anyway I was at the dentist today and I’m having trouble talking, so I’m going to run.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's awesome!
You should know that Al and I were talking about visiting you in Hanna.
But, hey, I can visit you in Merritt over Christmas!
Take care Auren and congrats!
Yeah, thanks everyone, and thanks for the plan to visit. I was here around 6 mon without a single visitor. Oh, I supose Manny came close.
Hey Auren, I know the editor, Tracy McCall, she used to be editor of PG This Week, a weekly I did some freelance for. She's a nice woman from what I can remember. Make sure to mention my name, I'm sure she remembers who i am.
And Alberta isn't that bad man, you just spent way too much time in Hanna, away from the bigger urban centers.
She'll be my publisher, seems nice enough on the phone.
And I agree, I don't claim to have any acurate sense of Alberta as a whole, just going completely stir crazy in this clausterphobic remote corner.
